CONSTRUCT NURSING COLLEGES HERE IN WEST VIRGINIA

Construct three state nursing colleges here.

With the overabundance of shortages in the nursing field now reaching epidemic proportions, now is the time to construct three nursing colleges here in West Virginia.

And with the drastic need for nurses nationwide, then securing federal funding should be easy, providing the next leader of the great state of West Virginia selects administrative members with those proven, hard working west virginia work ethics!

Elderly and retirees gyrate towards states with good health care providers. It is also a proven fact that for every one hundred retirees that relocate to any given community, that seventy good paying jobs are permanently created. To me that is self reliance.

Other facts:

  • 126,000 total united states number of shortages in nursing
  • 91% of hospitals, senior living facilities, skilled nursing units or home health agencies are drastically understaffed.
  • 75% of graduates of nursing colleges stay in the local area after graduation.
  • 50 people a minute need immediate health care.
  • 30% reduction in local medical and health care related costs.
  • 3 state colleges can be erected here at no cost to our taxpayers.
  • #2 -- the rank the state of florida holds for medium age population.
  • # 1 -- the rank west virginia holds in medium age population!

The state government could also support the nursing schools that we have. Glenville State has a nursing program. After an attempt to close the college a while back, those of us in town will always worry that an attempt will happen again.

I have to agree with you. I also feel alot more can be done to bolster the institutions that teach nursing. With the proper trimming of the dollars that are waisted in this state, then properly financing our present nursing schools can only aid our economy.

I think that I have outlined some of those cuts and have more to come. I really think I can make the next legislative body agree with me on this subject.

Glenville State has one of the best schools around and it really is a big help to the rural area and especially the young people there wanting higher education.

You have my word that more funding will be made avaliable to keep that and other institutions strong!

And while we are on the subject of nursing, don't you think that the old Weston State Hospital and it's grounds could be rehabilitated and turned into a first class nursing facility? There are plenty of Government grants available for the $30-50 million it would take to accomplish such a task.
